The Parry Teaching Award was established by Rodney and Carolyn Brady for excellence in undergraduate teaching in the Department of Chemistry. “The award will be made to a faculty member who has demonstrated a special motivation and ability in stimulating the interest of high school and undergraduate college students in the study of, and research activity in, the field of chemistry.”
Statler teaches and inspires high school students during the summer learning programs as well as teaches undergraduate chemistry courses which can be difficult for many new chemistry students to navigate. His teaching methods make chemistry approachable, and he motivates students to discover for themselves how foundational and impactful chemistry is and can be.
He also is an integral part to the annual Faraday Lectures that opens up the department to the Salt Lake community to come see impressive chemistry demonstrations every December.
