Harshkumar Patel, a PhD student in chemistry from the Matthew Sigman group, has been chosen as one of the finalists of the 2017 Reaxys Ph.D. Prize. It’s one of the most prestigious prizes a young chemist can achieve, and functions by recognizing and celebrating groundbreaking research done by the best and brightest chemists worldwide.
Among nearly 550 applicants from around the globe, Patel was selected as one of 45 finalists due to his paper titled “Enantioselective Palladium-Catalyzed Alkenylation of Trisubstituted Alkenols To Form Allylic Quaternary Centers,” published in Journal of the American Chemical Society, 2016. The selection criteria include originality and innovation, applicability, importance to the field, and rigor of methodology. Patel has been invited to present his research at the Reaxys PhD Prize Symposium on 19 and 20 October, which will be taking place in Shanghai. Three winners will be selected.
